Grants

Supporting our people. Growing our future.

From study and sport to caring for our kaumātua and whānau, our grants help share the benefits of the Trust with our people and community.

Who can apply?

Individual grants are for shareholders and their descendants, subject to the criteria for each grant. Community grants can also support the wider community. Funding is limited each year; if applications exceed the available budget, the Trust may apply additional selection criteria.

Tertiary education

Support is available from your second year of full-time study at a recognised tertiary institution. You must be a beneficial owner or a descendant of an owner, show that you successfully completed your first year, and provide an invoice for your current year of study.

The grant is equivalent to the cost of one paper in your course.

2026 applications are closed. The closing date was 28 June 2026. Contact the office about future application rounds.

Horticulture education

Interested in a future in horticulture? Eligible shareholder applicants enrolling in a Horticulture Industry Training Programme in the Bay of Plenty can receive help with fees and associated travel costs, as needed, from enrolment.

The Trust can support up to two Diploma trainees and four Certificate trainees in a financial year. Contact Coralie before applying to discuss your course and available support.

Kaumātua health

Eligible owners and descendants can receive help with actual health costs, up to $500 in total each year, for:

  • Sight: testing, glasses and contact lenses.

  • Hearing: testing and hearing aids.

  • Dental: visits and dentures.

Applicants must meet the age requirement of 65 or older by 31 December of the year before application. Reimbursement requires receipts in the kaumātua’s name. An approved provider can also be paid directly on receipt of an invoice.

Koroua / Kuia grant

2026 applications are open and close Friday 4 December 2026.

This grant supports eligible owners and descendants aged 65 or older. Please confirm the applicable age cut-off with the office when requesting your form.

All applicants need to provide a bank deposit form confirming their current account details. First-time applicants must also provide proof of date of birth, such as a driver licence, passport or birth certificate. Request the current application form from Coralie.

Tangihanga

A $500 grant per tangihanga is available where the deceased was an owner or a descendant of an owner. Contact the office for the tangihanga application form.

Sport

Representing your region or Aotearoa in a recognised sport? Shareholders and their descendants are welcome to apply. Grant amounts vary according to the level of representation and where the event is held.

Community

We welcome written requests for support for community initiatives and events. Address your request to the trustees and include what you are planning and when it will happen. Applications are considered case by case, guided by past practice and available funds.
