Ko Rangiwaea te Moutere

Our whenua connects us. Established on 14 May 1982, Tauwhao Te Ngare Trust brings together land blocks on Rangiwaea Island to keep the whenua in our hands, to support the local community and create local mahi and opportunities for whānau.

Today, the Trust oversees 252 hectares on behalf of owners whose whakapapa connects them to Rangiwaea and the two hapū of Tauwhao and Te Ngare.

Our horticulture, farming and forestry activities support a sustainable future. We nurture the whenua and invest in our people, strengthening opportunities for kaimahi and future generations.

The 252 hectares under Trust control comprises 78 ha Forestry, 54 ha Farming, 2.68 ha Avocados, and the jewel in the Trust’s crown which is a 24.47 ha Kiwifruit Orchard.

Ō Tātou Pūtake. Tō Tātou Anamata.

We acknowledge our founding trustees: Pereki Witooke, David (Peri) Murray, Ted Rolleston, William Gardiner, Turi Te Kani, Ron Taingahue and Johnny Taikato. At a time when government policies threatened whānau ownership of whenua, they stepped forward to protect our land and build a future for our people. Their vision and leadership laid the foundations for the Trust we have today.

We honour their contribution, and the generations of owners, trustees and kaimahi who have carried that work forward.

OUR VISION

A thriving moutere

Enabling the dreams and aspirations of Tauwhao me Te Ngare.

We protect, enhance and grow the whenua entrusted to us for our owners and future generations.
